One of the City of Bellevue's key goals is ensuring a healthy economy. The city is beefing up efforts toward economic development to bring new employers and more jobs to the Eastside. Among recent strong economic indicators:
  • Downtown office vacancy rates, as high as 26 percent in 2002, have dropped to about 10 percent.
  • Huge construction cranes one again dot the downtown skyline.
  • More companies are choosing to move to Bellevue. For example, Symetra Financial will bring 1,000 jobs in the summer of 2005.
  • The Overlake Hospital Medical Center expansion will bring 1,000 new jobs and $300 million in new construction to Bellevue by 2007

The Port of Seattle plays a key role in bringing international trade, transportation and travel to the region and supports industries as diverse as tourism and commercial fishing. The Port owns and operates Seattle-Tacoma International Airport - the nation's 17th busiest - handling more than 28 million passengers annually. Two cruise ship terminals handled 500,000 passengers during the 2004 season. State-of-the-art cargo-handling facilities constitute the nation's 8th busiest seaport. The Port also operates four public marinas, manages a number of real estate assets, and is a key builder of road and rail infrastructure.

Partnerships are key for any community to achieve economic success, and the BEP epitomizes how beneficial those partnerships can be. The city of Bellevue and our business community work hand in hand to attract, retain and enhance the industries essential to the economic vitality of Bellevue."
